My Fifteen Favourite Movie Cars

12. Dodge Charger – Bullitt

From the 1968 mystery/ action movie Bullitt starring Steve McQueen as a San Francisco Detective whose star mob witness is murdered in police custody.

The 1968 Dodge Charger R/T (Road/Track) 440 is driven by two hitmen responsible for the killing of the witness and tasked to keep an eye on Detective Frank Bullitt.

The Charger is most remembered for the car chase with Bullitt in his 1968 Ford Mustang 390 GT Fastback. The Charger was driven by experienced stunt driver Bill Hickman who also portrayed one of the two hitman in the movie. The Mustang by Steve McQueen himself.

Just prior to the start of the car chase you can see in the film Hickman reach down and put on his seatbelt. A little indication to the audience that something wild was about to happen.
